PHILIP SELWAY RADIOHEAD sticksman began to question his talent while recording his solo debut because he struggled to come up with drum parts for his songs.From Radiohead the rocker is branching away and to release his first solo effort but admits he can't take full credit for his percussion work because he was forced to rely on his collaborator, Wilco's Glenn Kotche, to help him feel the beat.
He tells Reuters, "My first attempts at singing didn't marry up with what I thought I was doing. There was a lot of trial and error, finding something that was musical and conversational at the same time.
"Also, when I was writing the tunes, I didn't hear drum parts. It was a bit worrying; as a drummer it made me question my credentials 'Why can't I think of drum parts?!'
"But Glenn had ideas, and that freed me up to concentrate on the songwriting side of things."
Selway's Familial album will hit shelves later this month (Aug10).
