World of Goo is one of the current darlings of the independent games industry. It’s an award winning physics based puzzle game featuring playful visuals and addictive gameplay.
Until October 19, the typically $20 title is on sale: just pay whatever you think it’s worth. This is highly reminiscent of last year’s successful Radiohead experiment to try a creative new business model for their In Rainbows album. This experiment is all the more poignant for World of Goo developer 2D Boy, who have struggled with a reported 90% piracy rate for the game. The game’s publisher, Brighter Minds, has also filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. In other words: what have they got to lose? The promotion also celebrates the 1 year anniversary of the game’s release.
Have you played World of Goo on any of the wide variety of platforms it’s available on (PC, Mac, Linuxlinux, Nintendo Wii and soon, iPhone)? If you haven’t purchased a copy before, will you pick one up and for how much?
